2008 News/Box Score

05/15/08

Tonight the 2008 Dunedin Falcons won the Class 5A State Championship, its first in nearly 45 years.  The win goes much further than just one night in Sarasota.  This win was for every player, who spent hours upon hours at the Englebert Complex.  For every manager, who made the spirit bags on game days.  For every parent, who scrubbed the clay out of the white stripe pants.

The 2008 Falcons may not have as good a record as in previous years, they may not be as talented a team as in previous years, but they have one important piece of hardware that all those teams in the past don't have.  The First State Championship in 45 years.

Thank you to all the Parents and Fans this year none of this would be possible without you.

The Falcons picked up right where they left off the day before putting up 9 runs in the first inning and winning the ball game 13 to 0.  Max Kreuter pitched exceptionally allowing just one infield hit.  The offense was lead by Jake Rogers who had two home runs, and Casey Turgeon who is making his case for this years batting title.  The Falcons will move on to the Championship game to face the winner of St. Pete vs. CCC.

If you weren't there you wouldn't believe it.  The Dunedin Falcons who have never been known for being fleet of foot managed to hit 5 triples in one game and 3 of the 5 came in the third inning alone.  The Shortstop, Catcher, First Baseman, Second Baseman, and Right Fielder none of which are known for their blazing speed.  As the Falcons went on to win their first game in the Spring Tournament moving them on to the second round.  The real news of the day came after the game as starting pitcher Cam Fisher, made his college commitment to Barry University official.

The Falcons opened up the game early with a big double off the left field wall by centerfielder Max Kreuter.  They would go on to manufacture that run, along with 3 more in the innings to follow.  With the surprise performance of Dunedin Pitching staff this year that was all the offense had to do as Starter Clay Kollenbaum, and relievers Danny Gardner and Alex Norris closed the door on any type of Eagles offensive surge.  The Falcons will wait to see who they play on Tuesday in their 39th Spring Invitational.

The Falcons look to be back on all cylinders as they traveled to Pinellas Park and beat the Patriots 13 to 0.  With the Easter Tournament just one week away they look to be a favorite once again.  "We are finally putting it all together offense, defense, and pitching.  When you have all three of those working you are a dangerous team"-Falcon Coach.  The Falcons will play the Palm Harbor Hurricanes next week at Englebert.

For those in attendance tonight you would think the Falcons from 2007 were playing.  For the first time all season the Falcons returned to form from last year when they walked away District Champions.  Max Kreuter was magical on the mound, the offense brought there thunderous sticks to the plate, and if you didn't know better you would think the defense was playing with gold gloves.  It was a positive night for the Falcons, but things are only going to get tougher from here as they go to Pinellas Park to face the Patriots on Thursday to finish out a 5 games in 8 days stretch.

It took the luck of the Irish for the Falcons to hold tonight.  With an early lead it slowly dwindled away with a bloop hit, an untimely error, and a solid single to left.  But the Falcons did what they have done all season, kept there poise, rallied together, and managed to walk away with a big conference victory.  The Falcons will head up to Tarpon Spring Tomorrow Night to play the Spongers.

When the March 4th rain out game was scheduled to be made up on March 15th I promise you neither coach expected the game to turn out like this.  Lasting three hours and 18 minutes through 33 runs, 7 pitchers, and 21 hits the falcons outlasted the Eagles in this seasons battle of the birds.  The majority of runs for the Falcons came in the two, three, and four spots in the line up who combined had, 9 RBI's, 12 Runs Scored, and 3 Home Runs (one each).  The Falcons will play Lakewood Monday in Dunedin at 7:00pm.

For the second time this season senior Max Kreuter lead off the game with a big solo home run.  That was the start to a offensive night for the falcons as they had ten hits as eight of those hits went for extra bases with two big blasts, Max Kreuters in the first and Ryan Schneider's in the fourth.  The Falcons will take on District Rivals the Clearwater Tornadoes for the second time this season tomorrow night at 7:00.

The wind played a huge factor in tonights game as the falcons could not get the bats hot in the chilly temperatures.  A two run home run from Senior Jamison Sweat in the third was all Starting pitcher Clay Kollenbaum needed as he pitched 4 innings allowing just one run.  Sophomore Alex Norris came in to close out the game in the 5th inning striking out 7 of the 13 hitters he faced.  The Falcons will take on the Largo Packers at Largo on Thursday March 13th.

The Countryside Cougars came into Knology park with tonight, putting two runs up on starter Max Kreuter in the first inning.  For other teams that might cause panic in the dugout but not for the Falcons.  Starter Max Kreuter answered that with a leadoff Home Run in the bottom half of the first.  From there the falcons did nothing bad add pressure scoring every inning for four innings.  The falcons will play a make up game against Pinellas Park on Saturday at the Cecil Englebert Complex in Dunedin.

The storyline going into todays game at Palm Harbor was would the Falcons who had a late night in St. Pete perform on back to back days.  The answer is Yes!  On the backs of Freshman Casey Turgeon and Senior Jamison Sweat the Falcons exploded for 11 runs on 10 hits.  With Starter Clay Kollenbaum shutting down the Hurricanes offense on the mound the falcons improved their record to 5 and 2 on the season.

Thursdays nights game did not start on time due to a bus scheduling mistake.  The Falcons would not let that stop them as they put up three runs early in the first.  That would be all they need as Max Kreuter and Cam Fisher combined to allow just two runs on six hits to the scrappy Boca Ciega Pirates.  The offense was led by Freshman Casey Turgeon and his 2 for 3 performance with a sky high double off the wall.  The Falcons will travel Friday to take on District Rival the Hurricanes of Palm Harbor, a 4 pm start.

02/26/08

Tonight's game against Pinellas Park Patriots has been Rained Out and will be made up later in the season.  The Falcons will go on the road Thursday to take on the Boca Ceiga Pirates at Hoyt Field, the game will start at 7:00 sharp.

The Falcons entered the bottom of the sixth with there backs up against the wall on Friday night, just dont tell them that.  Reliever Alex Norris allowed his first two runs of the season tying the game at 5 a piece in the top half of the sixth.    The veteran ball club choose to pick up the underclassman by forcing the Tarpon Springs Sponger pitching to make mistakes.  Freshman Casey Turgeon capitalized on one of those mistakes sending a bases clearing double into the gap to give the falcons the lead and eventually the win.  The Falcons will take on the Pinellas Park Patriots Tuesday night at Knology Park.

The Falcons showed a skill that has not been seen in Dunedin since 2005, speed.  The Falcons put pressure on the Tornadoes all night long forcing three throwing errors.  On the mound the Falcons were just as impressive as Max Kreuter, Danny Gardner, and Ryan Reedy combined to allow just 4 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings.  The Falcons will take on another District competitor in the Tarpon Springs Spongers Friday night at Dunedin Stadium.  The Gates open at 6:00 and the game starts at 7:00 pm.

You would think that when a team gives up eleven runs in one inning the game would be over.  That was not the case on Saturday.  The Falcons responded to a miserable defensive performance by hitting the ball around the yard, spraying 14 hits with only one of those hits going for extra bases.  The team came together before the fans eyes and showed promise for the rest of the season to come.  When asked how he felt aout the trip head coach Tom Hilbert responded with,"This is why we travel around the state every year, to play the best competition we can find."  The falcons will face the Clearwater Tornadoes on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Friday night was a match up of two of the best programs in the state as the Dunedin Falcons took on the Bishop Kenny Crusaders.  The falcons took a 2 to 1 lead in the top of the third taking advantage of some timely defensive mistakes by the Crusaders.  Max Priest went 2 for 3 leading off the third inning and eventually coming around to score.  After a rough start from pitcher Clay Kollenbaum, Ryan Reedy came in from the pen and stopped the bleeding allowing just a 2 hits through 4 innings of work.  The Falcons will travel to Bolles High School to take on Class 1A favorite Eagles View Saturday at 1 pm.

The cards were stacked against the Falcons last night as they spent over four hours traveling to Jacksonville, playing in below freezing conditions, in an environment they have yet to see this season.  The veteran squad persevered and with a diligent approach at the plate and another stellar defensive performance walked away with a win.  The Falcons will have their work cut out for them tonight as they travel to play the Class 4A power Bishop Kenny.

A late start did not phase the Falcons as they get out to an early lead against the Plant Panthers.  The Falcons jumped out to an early lead led by Max Kreuter being hit by a pitch.  From there the bats made noise but were unable to produce runs until the fourth inning when they exploded for 4 runs on 4 hits.  The performance on the mound was equally as impressive with three pitchers Max Kreuter, Danny Gardner, and Alex Norris combining for a three hitter, keeping the Panthers guessing all night long.  The Falcons are on the road next week as they travel to Jacksonville to play Class 3A power Bolles High School.

Ryan Schneider Led the Falcons going 3 for 3.

The 2008 Pre-Season opened tonight in Tampa, Florida against the Jefferson Dragons.  As many remember the Dragons knocked Dunedin out of the Playoffs last season in a game for the ages.  But with a new year, a new team, and a new attitude the Falcons looked to retaliate in 2008, sending the big right hander Clay Kollenbaum to the mound.  It took Kollenbaum an inning to settle in loading the bases in the first off of two walks and a double but as they say "the buck stopped there".  He went on to pitch four scoreless innings.  The well known Falcons bats showed signs of being bigger and better in 2008.  The first at bat of the season was a double off the wall by centerfielder Max Kreuter.  But as everyone knows hitting is about consistency and Ryan Schneider was as consistent as you can get going 3 for 3.  The Falcons will be in Tampa to play the Plant Panthers tomorrow night at 7:30 pm

01/16/08

The Dunedin Falcons are proud to welcome the Newest Falcons.  Pitchers Justin Barker, Mike Clarkson, Cameron Oxiner, Trevor Schmidt, and Joe Vilardi.  Catcher Jordan Savinon.  Infielders Julian Garzon, Kyle Kunnen, Connor Oliveri, Jamison Sweat, and Casey Turgeon.  And finally Outfielder Alex Libby.

They look to continue the tradition and reputation of Dunedin High School Baseball.

11/14/2007

The Dunedin Falcons are proud to announce that Seniors Jake Rogers, Clay Kollenbaum, and Max Kreuter have all signed their National Letters of intent to play college baseball in 2009.

Jake Rogers signed to play for the University of Central Florida.  Jake has been the backbone to the Falcons offense the past 2 seasons hitting .622 as a sophomore and .520 as a Junior.  With his positive attitude and physical presence he has been one of the leaders for the Falcons the past two seasons and will continue to do so in 2008.

Clay Kollenbaum signed to play with Jacksonville University in 2009.  Clay made a name for himself in 2007 throwing two back to back no hitters on the mound.  Jacksonville University has signed a over-powering pitcher who keeps hitters off balance with his off speed.  Clay is only going to get better and the Falcons look to reap the benefits of that in 2008.

Finally, Senior LHP/OF Max Kreuter signed to play for the two time defending back to back Division IIA Champion University of Tampa Spartans.  Max is a crafty lefty on the mound and an athletic gem in the field.  He will develop into a huge asset both on the mound and in the field for Coach Urso at University of Tampa.

The Falcons look to continue to make moves during the signing period as several of the players are College bound both on the field and in the classroom.
